So President Uchtdorf is pretty much one of everyone's favorite general authorities. People won't admit it's true, because we're not supposed to have favorites, but it's a truth. His countless aviation jokes, his cute accent, his love for women, and his strong testimony fills you with the Spirit each time he talks.
Well today, this wonderful man gave a CES fireside at the Marriott Center, and little ole me was able to attend. He walked in the room, the entire audience (which was tons of students) was silenced, and everyone stood up. The Spirit was strong and one knew he was called of God.
He gave an informing talk about truth. Here are a few of my notes I took from his talk:
3 important questions about truth:
1. What is it?
2. Is it really possible to know the truth?
3. How should we act to contradictions of what we know to be true?
◙ The truth we cling to determines our society and who we are/become.
◙ We oftentimes confuse belief with truth. We believe that since it "makes sense", is easy, or is consistent
with past experiences (like when we judge people) it is truth. However, truth exists belong belief. It can
still be true even if no one believes it.
◙ Uchtdorf said that there IS a such a thing as absolute truth. It's not dependent on public opinion or
popularity. In fact it is determined by God. His truth is the gospel- the gospel of Christ. He gives us a
great promise that if we seek Him (Christ), we will find Him.
◙ We can't know all things. God still has yet to reveal many great things concerning the kingdom of God.
◙ Uchtdorf also gave us a warning not to settle in "blind security" and to seek for truth.
◙ And lastly, my favorite, "Spare no efforts to know if this the the truth, because it will set you free."
I LOVE THIS because I know it is true. Only through Christ can we reach our highest potential and this
great gospel is the gospel of Christ.
Life is good. Seek after truth. Truth is good.
